Alcoholism and why Greenhouse Treatment is the Solution

Alcohol abuse is a serious battle for many individuals. Not only is it legal and available at most, if not all, convenience and grocery stores, it’s a type of substance that is often consumed socially at happy hours, events, and parties. What does all this mean? That it may be challenging to battle alcohol abuse when it’s a substance that constantly surrounds the individual who is struggling.

Greenhouse Treatment Center, an American Addiction Centers (AAC) facility, provides medical detox, which is often needed with alcohol use disorders in order to stabilize individuals. Through medication-assisted treatment (MAT), physicians may use detox medications such as Disulfiram, Acamprosate, or Naltrexone to help with the withdrawal process.

Greenhouse also provides inpatient and outpatient treatment and even a sober living facility to help those who need support during the transition from rehab to rejoining the rest of the world.

Located in Grand Prairie, Texas, Greenhouse not only provides multiple levels of care, but offers a variety of therapies as well. This includes everything from holistic therapies like music and art to core therapies such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), rational emotive behavior therapy, and motivational interviewing (MI).

Alcoholism in Texas is a serious challenge. In 2018 alone, there were a total of 16,165 admissions of its residents into treatment where alcohol was the main substance abused. More than half of these individuals were not only non-Hispanic Caucasian, but were also between the ages of 26-44. An upwards of a million individuals 12 years and older required treatment for alcohol use and did not receive it, according to a survey from 2016-2017.

This is why Greenhouse may be a solution for many individuals.

Greenhouse takes patient care one step further by providing therapies that are specific to the treatment of alcohol use disorder, including:

  • Motivational enhancement therapy (MET). This may help an individual to engage with treatment more effectively and to minimize the challenges with drinking.
  • 12-step facility therapy. This increases an individual’s likelihood of connecting with 12-step groups, as well as encourage abstinence.
  • Contingency management (CM) interventions. Positive behaviors are rewarded, which may ultimately cause individuals to not consume alcohol and may increase treatment retention.
  • Community reinforcement approach plus vouchers. This is a 24-week outpatient therapy. An individual with addictions to both cocaine and alcohol may benefit from this treatment. They are held accountable for their actions through urine testing, and they attend counseling once a week.
  • Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). This was mentioned with the list of core therapies above. However, it specifically may help those battling alcohol abuse by helping individuals to identify and modify behaviors that don’t suit them, inclusive of coping with cravings and developing a plan to avoid situations that may cause them to drink.

Therapies and levels of care are contingent on the individual’s needs, medical history, psychological assessments, substance of abuse, and other variables in order to create a tailored treatment program unique to the individual.

At Greenhouse Treatment Center, individuals will get the care and support they need in order to achieve sobriety. We’ll be there from detox, to treatment, to aftercare planning, sober living, and beyond. Greenhouse is here for the long-haul.
