Why Attend an LGBTQ Specialized Treatment Program?
The stigma associated with drug and alcohol addiction may feel just as painful as the discrimination that many members of the LGBTQ community experience. But what happens if you are part of the LGBTQ community and need help for substance abuse? It may seem like there aren’t any welcoming resources. Sources that don’t understand substance abuse as a disease and sexuality as not a choice. You shouldn’t have to hide who you are to get the help you need for your health.
At Greenhouse Treatment Center, an American Addiction Centers facility, we offer a specialized program geared towards the LGBTQ community. Instead of hiding who you are, we embrace your uniqueness, address any possible co-occurring disorders, and provide treatment for you as a whole. Your voice and needs are equally as important as everyone else’s.
Topics addressed on the LGBTQ track at Greenhouse include:
- Coming out.
- History of LGBTQ community.
- Healthy relationships.
- Family dynamics.
- Transgender issues.
Located in the Lone Star state of Texas, Greenhouse is about going big or going home. Its facility is the former location of a Neiman Marcus spa. Between luxury accommodations like massage, acupuncture, a pool, and the availability of private rooms, to activities and amenities like yoga, biofeedback chair, fitness center, and nutritiously balanced meals, you will be well-cared for in a supportive and warm environment. Not to mention, accepted for who you are.
There are a variety of levels of care. The most effective option for each individual is based upon their specific needs and the assessment provided by our medical staff. First, they need to determine whether or not an individual needs supervised medical detox. This includes an evaluation of the severity of their dependence on drug(s), current substance abuse, the length of time of substance abuse, and any potential withdrawal symptoms.
Once an assessment is complete, an appropriate treatment is chosen. Options include residential treatment (RT), inpatient rehabilitation (IR), partial hospitalization program (PHP), standard outpatient, and intensive outpatient program.
Additionally, because Greenhouse Treatment Facility cares so much about each individual’s long-term sobriety, individuals have the opportunity to work with a staff member during treatment regarding an aftercare plan. An aftercare plan helps to increase an individual’s success in recovery by giving them direction, tangible tools, and resources to succeed. This includes recommendations for continued care with a therapist, psychiatrist, and/or a physician as needed.
Achieving long-term sobriety is what rehabilitation is about. Providing individual’s with the foundation to live a healthy and productive life begins in treatment. Those in the LGBTQ community battling a substance use disorder or an alcohol use disorder may not always get the support they need within families, on the job, or in their neighborhoods. They may face stigma or outright discrimination for simply being who they are. Because of this, there may be fear in having to walk through the door of a treatment facility to ask for help when they may fear judgement for not only their addiction, but their sexual orientation as well.
Allow Greenhouse Treatment Center to be the safe haven and rehabilitation option of choice. We welcome everyone. We care. We simply want to help and to make a difference.
