- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). CBT focuses on correcting negative behavioral and thought patterns that may lead someone to use drugs.
- Motivational Interviewing (MI). MI helps someone get inspired to get and remain sober by having them outline their goals. This makes a patient more receptive to the hard work it takes to remain in recovery.
- Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy. This form of therapy enables patients to recognize self-defeating thoughts and replace them with positive and productive ones.
- Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). DBT revolves around 4 principles, broken up into 2 seemingly opposed pairs: mindfulness vs. interpersonal effectiveness, and distressed tolerance vs. emotion regulation.
- Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR). This form of therapy is especially useful in helping people who have suffered trauma, mitigating the symptoms that may trigger them to relapse.
